John Boorman! Funny you mention Payback. Theres a directors cut floating around streaming which i watched out of curiosity thinking why is there a directors cut of this. They removed the narration and some of the lame humor, third act is much different and gave it a little bit of a grittier feel than the theatrical release.
There is a director's cut called Payback: Straight Up. I will keep a eye out on the free streamers for it. Or just break down and rent it for 3 bucks one of these nights. Thanks!
Instead of Payback I’ll just watch The Limey which is Soderbergh’s “Point Blank but the guy’s British” and one of the best gritty crime films of all time along with Get Carter and The Killers. Cooke did like four or five of those adaptations which are beautiful. There’s also The Outfit with Robert Duvall that’s another Parker book adaptation, and I recommend avoiding the Jason Statham one from a few years back. Blech. Oh, and the TV adaptation of High Fidelity is likewise very worthy of a watch—only one season, gender swapped, just as smart and funny and on point as the originals.
I was getting on a Parker kick so I definitely enjoyed the Gibson movie even if its softer than the novel, but definitely harder than anything Gibson had done on screen up until that time. There was also a Parker movie with Jason Statham but I forgot it completely by now. For adaptation of rather love how about a boy has the same dialogue where he tells his new girlfriend thevtruth but in the movie shes hurt while in the book she's amused.

That might be why I enjoyed payback. I think I saw the directors cut.
Thanks guys, I will hunt that down

“…tainted by the Edgelords” is my new mantra.
I stand by his first three books. But god, the wrong fucking people love him. He's the Sublime of American Literature

Good idea for an article you should write! Or two articles. There's a lot here.
That's a great idea, actually. Thank you.

Yeah, there's a bunch of adaptations of his writing overall. I had to focus on just this one or I'd never get around to writing it.
