You made me fall in love with this book all over again, Bucky. Thank you! God, the lines in this collection. Just going from memory..."Your husband will beat you with an extension cord, but you were my mother." "I killed the mother but saved the child." "I like to ride the fast ones at night." And Dundun, how somebody took a stick, opened his skull, and stirred up his brain...I will love this book forever.
Did you read/see High Fidelity? They kept so many parts of the book that didn't work well as a film but satisfied the Nick Hornby readers in the theater.
I did. Those were kind of the formative movies of my youth. Throw in Eternal Sunshine and every Coen Bros and Lynch movie and you get the gist of it. In fact, I found out about Beta Band from High Fidelity. That is Ray Johnson level making performance art out of a career fuckery from those guys.
One of the greatest books of all time, in my opinion. It had a massive influence on my novel. If I hadn't read it, I'm not sure VILE SELF PORTRAITS would exist.
I remember finding it one day at the library. I was homeless, so the library was my hangout, especially when it was cold outside. I picked it up, read the cover, and thought, "Interesting title." After reading the first paragraph of "Car Crash While Hitchhiking," I was hooked. Johnson became one of my favorite writers. His style is so beautiful. His story is so compelling. The bunnies...
Bold!!!!
Next, I'll suggest my starting lineup changes for the '90s Bulls. Ha ha.
Hahahahahahaha

Oh great! well deserved "love forever" book.
It is a perfect book. Also a perfect movie. Only other instance of this I can think of is "One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest."

Both High Fidelity and Jesus' Son have Jack Black stealing scenes like a master thief/thespian. 😁
Oh yeah! Maybe that’s why it came to mind—that connection.
Star Wars fans have the "Machete Order," now the literary world has the "Sinister Order."
